Assassin's Creed series have no demo at all. I don't want to advise you download a cracked version of AC1 instead of buying it, but AC1 is a good game indeed. You can watch some gameplay and search for public opinions on it. If you really want to start the story from the beginning then you must play it. If you are just seeking a nice game to play then you can escape AC1 and play AC2, but be assured that AC Brotherhood and Revelations(though revelations disappointed some people I am not of them) are great games!
